Week 3 - First mockup for VR

1 August 2017

In terms of outputs, Interactive website makes sense as I would need a website in the first place to pick the data online and curate the memorial. Therefore the interactive website would be the first medium to output the data visually.

Now a book would be an alternative, as it is a tradition in most cultures to give heirlooms to the younger generations once a person passes away. It would be a reverse step to the digital trend of storing memories.

So, let me explain to you why on earth I am then even considering VR for this project. It is new and unfamiliar to most people.

My project is based on the speculative question of how we are going to remember people. That goes for now, but especially in the future. Digital assets are sort of a tool and container for memories in this case. But the primarily question is how we are using those now, and in the future.
Yes, there will be technologies emerging in 50 years, and Websites, books and even VR might be extinct by then, who knows?

However, I cannot predict what type of technology will be out there in the next 50 years or beyond and I can't use them in 2017. But by sticking to more 'older' outputs, will not support the notion of making a design accessible as time passes.

I also believe that the experience of the design is more intuitive, immersive and mindblowing with VR technology, compared to the other two mediums. However, that doesn't mean that they do not have their own type of experience for the user.

That said, I have been watching tutorials for VR development & design and build my first mock-up. One to get back into the game engine after three years, and two to start usertest this medium on people.
